The History of Levitra

The development of the impotence prescription drug Levitra came about to challenge the monopoly enjoyed by Pfizer, the makers of Viagra. For years the prescription drug company, Pfizer, capitalized on being the only drug company that could distribute a drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Literally billions of dollars have been made with this drug.

Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corp. developed Vardenafil HCl (Levitra) to enter the erectile dysfunction drug market. In order to compete with Viagra it was going to be necessary to offer a drug with distinct advantages. The primary advantage Levitra has over Viaga is that men take Levitra without regard to meals, making it more convenient to use.

Levitra is the second ED drug to be FDA approved. Cialis is the third. Expect a fourth one to enter the market that will function on a totally different mechanism.  This fourth one may actually help female sexual dysfunction.
